On behalf of the governing body, I am delighted to provide a copy of Ofsted's report of their inspection of our school that took place in December, 2009 (please see link below).
The report confirms to us that Byfield School is a good school, where most pupils meet or exceed the challenging targets that are set and achieve above average standards, particularly in English and Mathematics, as they finish Key Stage 2.
As governors we are particularly pleased that just about all aspects of the school have been rated as 'Good' or 'Outstanding' and that:
"A major strength of the school is seen in the pupils' excellent attendance and their outstanding attitudes to learning. Behaviour in lessons is exemplary."
We have highly effective, dedicated staff who "take responsibility willingly, and are prepared to go the extra mile, in terms of time and commitment, on behalf of the pupils."
"... examples of outstanding teaching and learning were seen in all three classes... Teaching throughout the school supports well not only pupils' participation in learning, but also their opportunities for performance."
The Inspector highlighted to me how much he had enjoyed his two day visit. He could see how the school plays an important part in the local community and works cohesively with other local organisations, in order to prepare pupils extremely well for the next stage in their lives. He was pleased to note that the aspects for improvement listed in his report to enable the school to move from being 'Good' to 'Outstanding', had already been identified before his visit and were being planned for and implemented.
I would, of course, like to take this opportunity to congratulate the staff for making such good progress over the last three years. However, just as importantly, I would also like to congratulate and thank all the pupils, parents, carers and volunteers - for the role they play every day is critical in making the school the success that it is.
Yours faithfully
Gloesha Challice Chair of Governors
