Byfield Nursery

Byfield Nursery is a friendly village nursery set in a purpose-designed building on the site of Byfield Primary School, Northamptonshire. We take children from their second birthday until they start in reception. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and provide a wide range of free-flow activities both indoors and outdoors including imaginative play, arts and crafts, cooking, sensory play and forest school. We work closely with the reception class at Byfield School and we regularly use their facilities. We also offer transition sessions with the reception teacher to prepare the children for starting school. Ofsted rated us as Good with Outstanding for personal development, behaviour and welfare.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8:45am – 3:15pm during term time. We have funded places available and we accept childcare vouchers.

If you would like further information or would like to make an appointment to look round the nursery, please email us at  or call us on 01327 264 230.

Learning through play!

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, further details of which are available in the Information for Parents at Each session we provide a range of activities and resources for the children to explore and participate in. Some activities will be adult led while others are available for more free play. We include lots of sensory play and craft activities. We also use the nursery garden, school playground, field and school hall for games and PE. Writing/drawing materials are always available and often incorporated into other situations such as the role play area.  We also encourage the children to bring in occasional special items from home to talk about during our show and tell time.

What your child will need:
  • Spare clothing
  • Nursery uniform (optional)
  • Water bottle
  • Lunch box (if your child stays for lunch club)
  • Wellington boots
  • Suncream and sun hat during hot weather
  • Warm coat and gloves during cold weather

Please clearly label all your child’s belongings with your child’s name!
Tapestry Online Learning Journals
At Byfield Nursery we use an education package called ‘Tapestry’ to record children’s work, learning and development. You will receive an email from Tapestry inviting you to set up your own secure password where you can log in to and access your child’s observations, reports, pictures and videos throughout their time with us at Byfield Nursery. Tapestry will email you each time a new observation or piece of work is uploaded for you to view, the number of which will vary from week to week.
We hope that this will enable you to follow your child’s individual development and achievements closely. You will be able to add your own comments and home observations if you wish so that we can see what your child gets up to at home too!
The activities, topics and next steps for your child will be planned around the observations we make by tracking their development on Tapestry. This allows us to see where we need to support your child further. Observations will be made by all members of staff regardless of who your child’s key worker is, as a large amount of learning that is observed happens in the moment.

Your child’s Tapestry learning journey can be viewed on computer, tablet or mobile phone. If you do not have access to the internet we are able to download your child’s learning journey to PDF which will be available to view on a nursery laptop on request.

We would like to ensure parents that internet safety and Safeguarding practices are of upmost importance to us. All information about your child is stored on Tapestry’s highly secure server which is monitored closely. You will only be able to see your own child/children’s learning journey.

If you have any questions about Tapestry, its uses or its privacy please talk to a member of staff and we will be happy to help you.
Volunteering to help
